ALEXANDRIA — Alexandria firefighters braved 30-below zero wind chills while fighting a garage fire Friday, Dec. 23.
They were called to 309 7th Ave. East around 4 p.m. after a witness saw flames and smoke coming out of the roof of a garage.
Firefighters arrived, ventilated the building and doused water on the garage.
North Memorial Ambulance was also on scene.
Meanwhile, a wind chill warning remained in effect in Douglas County until noon on Saturday, Dec. 24. Wind chills as low as 40-below zero were recorded from wind gusts of 40 to 45 mph, according to the National Weather Service. A blizzard warning was also in effect and expired at 6 a.m. on Saturday.
