To the editor:

On Sunday, December 30, 2007, our two Spinoni Italiano hunting dogs curiously followed a few local ducks that were walking down our alley at Cedar and 7th Avenue to the pond behind the ballpark. Unfortunately, they both fell through the ice. Some alert citizen must have seen or heard the dogs barking and called the police. When I arrived, the police and dive team were in the process of rescuing both dogs. Zeus and Zola are now safely at home warming up in front of the Aga Stove.

We want to thank the person who called the police for their caring action, the Alexandria Police Department and Dive Team for responding promptly and saving the day. Zeus, Zola, and the entire Thompson family are thankful to all those who helped.

Zeus, Zola
