Starting Monday, July 19, construction begins on Highway 55 near Glenwood and the roadway will close between Highway 29 and 160th Street.
Traffic will be detoured to Highway 29 and Highway 28 in Glenwood until October.
During construction, local traffic will have access to Highway 55 in Glenwood, between Highway 28 and 160th Street, but the roadway will be closed to all traffic between 160th Street and Highway 29.
The work is part of a two-year project to construct an overpass bridge on Highway 29. The overpass will eliminate an “at grade” crossing with the Canadian Pacific railway system and address safety and congestion issues. This year, crews will realign Highway 55, moving it closer to the railroad to minimize the length of the future bridge. In addition, they will reconstruct 160th Street and build the roundabout at the Highway 55/160th Street intersection.
In spring 2022, crews will return to begin construction of the Highway 29 bridge and second roundabout at the Highway 29/160th Street intersection.
