Gymnasts compete in Buffalo Invitational

The Cardinal gymnasts competed in their first invitational of the year Saturday, with 10 varsity competitors traveling to the eight-team meet at Buffalo.

The Cardinal gymnasts competed in their first invitational of the year Saturday, with 10 varsity competitors traveling to the eight-team meet at Buffalo.

The Redbird tumblers finished in eighth place with a score of 117.575, while Rosemount captured the championship with a 140.05.

"This was an exciting meet to participate in as well as watch, with lots of metro schools, new judges and that "big meet" atmosphere," said Cardinal head coach Sue Thelen.

"Conference and sectionals are now less than a month away," she added. "We are at the point in our season where the polish of our routines really needs to count. Most of the new skills we have been working on are in our routines and the repetition and experience of early performance will pay off in the end."

Mallory Stier and Becky Ofert led the Alexandria vaulters with scores of 8.45 and 8.4, while Sarah Listrom finished with an 8.1.

Ofert put in the best bar routine with a 7.825 and on beam Listrom finished with an 8.075.

Ofert put in a beam routine of 7.55 and Sarah Sater finished with a 7.325.

On floor, Ofert led the way with an 8.35, Listrom 8.05 and Stier a 7.15.
