ALEXANDRIA – Douglas County Commissioner Tim Kalina was voted in as this year’s chairperson during the Tuesday, Jan. 4, organizational meeting. He is taking over for Jerry Rapp.

With Tuesday’s meeting being the first meeting of the new year, commissioners took action of several items that are approved on a yearly basis, including the following:

  • Meeting dates and times for the 2022 calendar year.

  • More than 70 committee assignments and other boards, task forces, organizations or meetings commissioners serve on or attend.

  • Naming the Echo Press as the official newspaper of the county for publication of all its required legal notices. The Echo Press was the lone bidder in the process.

  • Financial institutions as depositories and/or investment brokers of funds for Douglas County during the upcoming year.

  • Awarding the vehicle maintenance bid to Shutter’s Tire and Auto for all vehicle maintenance of Douglas County vehicles. Shutter’s was the lowest of three bids received by the county.

  • Paying yearly dues of $18,453 to the Association of Minnesota Counties.

  • Appointments of delegates for the Association of Minnesota Counties policy committees.

After the organizational meeting was adjourned, the commissioners went into a special meeting where the following actions were approved:

  • Resolutions accepting grants from the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources in the amount of $14,840 for Off Highway Vehicle Safety and Minnesota Department of Public Safety in the amount of $420,000 for the Violent Crime Enforcement Teams in 2022 and 2023. Both grants are for the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office.

  • Contract between the Central Minnesota Mental Health and Douglas County Social Services.
