Before approval of a residential development on Pilgrim Point can be granted, Douglas County is seeking public input as part of an Environmental Assessment Worksheet review process.
In coordination with Pilgrim Point Shores, LLC and its consultant, Landteam, Inc., Douglas County Land and Resource Management Director Dave Rush completed an Environmental Assessment Worksheet that outlines the project and the potential impact it could have.
The plan for the private development of the 35.5 acres on the east shore of Lake Ida includes 32 lots (28 lakeshore and four non-lakeshore) and 14 single family townhomes.
Douglas County is planning a beach and recreation area on the rest of the 8.37 acres at the end of Pilgrim Point. This is a separate project, but as a connection action, has the potential to increase noise and traffic in the area, which has been noted in the EAW.
The EAW is mandated by the state because the project involves more than 25 lots and the preserved open space is under 50% of the land. The document includes a map of the project and is available for viewing Monday through Friday 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at the Douglas County Land and Resource Management Office, 305 8th Ave. W. Written comments become part of the public record and must be received no later than 4:30 pm on Thursday, July 8.
A public informational meeting is being planned for Tuesday, June 22 at 7 p.m. in the Douglas County Public Works Building, 526 Willow Dr., in Alexandria.
Maps of the proposed project will be on display at the meeting and those attending can ask questions about the EAW process and the initial activities planned for this project, which include: roadway construction, public sanitary sewer installation and construction of permanent stormwater management facilities.
