For always going above and beyond what is expected of her, Kim Taveirne was honored with the Meritorious Support Staff Award for her work at the Douglas County Extension Services office.

Taveirne, the officer manager, was recognized for this honor at the Tuesday, Nov. 5 Douglas County Board meeting.

Robin Trott, a University of Minnesota Extension educator, has worked with Taveirne for the past 10 years and said she wanted to recognize her hard work. Taveirne has worked with the Extension Services agency for 22 years, which includes an internship while she was in college.

In her nomination letter, Trott said, “In addition to performing her job at an exemplary level, Taveirne demonstrates an extraordinary commitment to the U of M Extension educators, staff and volunteers, as well as to the general public.”

Trott said no matter what is thrown her way, Taveirne meets each challenge with determination, organization and elegance.

As if supporting three educators wasn’t enough, Trott said, Taveirne also has to juggle the requests from 65 Master Gardener volunteers and more than 300 4-H’ers and volunteers.

Taveirne creates news releases, posters, handouts, promotional materials and awards, as well as manages fair registrations. She also records and submits all Douglas County Fair data prior to the Minnesota State Fair.

“She proofreads my news articles weekly, helps me create signage, news releases, agendas, programs and has helped me when my needs far outweigh my technology skills,” Trott wrote in her nomination letter. “All with patience and a smile on her face.”

Trott also said that Taveirne has never been formally recognized for her hard work and that she was more than deserving of the award.

“I couldn’t do my job without her,” Trott told commissioners at the Tuesday meeting.

Taveirne was given the award as all of the county commissioners thanked her.
