Those visiting the Douglas County Services Center next week will need to make plans for alternative parking.
The parking lot that serves the Douglas County Library, Veterans Service office, Senior Citizens office and Lakes Area Recreation, located on 9th Avenue between Elm Street and Fillmore Street, will be repaved and not accessible for up to one week.
The project is scheduled to begin the week of Oct. 7, weather permitting. On-street parking will be available, but will be in high demand.
Douglas County commissioners approved a contract with Mark Lee Asphalt and Paving, Inc. for the project, which includes grinding up and removing the existing asphalt, filling potholes, repaving and striping the lot.
“We realize this will be a temporary inconvenience for people, but the long-term benefits will be felt for years to come,” said Douglas County Facilities Director Steve Ziemer. “We appreciate everyone’s patience.”
Access will still be available to the above-mentioned departments by entering the Services Center building at 715 Elm Street. Enter in the Douglas County License Bureau doors and look for signs directing you to the right department.
Be advised that visitors are not to park in the nearby lot reserved for law enforcement personnel.
