Douglas County commissioners approved nearly $140,000 in appropriations at Tuesday’s regular meeting. That amount is nearly $7,000 less than the amount requested by seven entities.

At the Sept. 3 meeting, commissioners heard from: Brenda Brittin, Rainbow Rider director; Christin Klimek from Lakes Area Humane Society; Wendy Hyatt, Central Minnesota Elder Network executive director; Angela Jacobson, Osakis city clerk/treasurer; and Brad Brejcha from the Douglas County Agriculture Association, which runs the county fair.

The board previously heard budget requests from Tara Bitzan, executive director of the Lakes Area Chamber of Commerce, and representatives from Pride of the Lakes.

Here’s a look at the appropriations approved by the commissioners:

  • $103,977 to Rainbow Rider.

  • $15,000 to the Douglas County Agriculture Association.

  • $8,000 to Lakes Area Humane Society.

  • $8,000 to Central Minnesota Elder Network.

  • $2,278 to the Osakis Economic Development Commission.

  • $1,000 to the Alexandria Lakes Area Chamber of Commerce for its Leadership Alexandria program.

  • $1,000 to Pride of the Lakes.

Other matters

In other agenda items, the commissioners approved the following items:

  • Filling a vacancy for an engineering technician in the Public Works department.

  • Donation of $23 to Kensington Rune Stone County Park.

  • Repair request for County Ditch 10 because of debris in the channel.

  • Repair request for County Ditch 17 because of tile washout.

  • Repair request for County Ditch 23 because of plugged tile.

  • Gambling permit for United Way of Douglas and Pope Counties for raffle at Alexandria Shooting Park on Sept. 10.

  • Contract with A and E Plumbing to replace tube bundles.

  • Contract with Mark Lee Excavating for paving the Social Services parking lot.

  • Engineering contract with EDI for converting steam boilers to hot water in the courthouse.
