Firefighters from the Alexandria Fire Department were called to their second fire of the day Saturday, this one in the parking lot of Menards.

A 2006 Chrysler Town & Country van owned by Albert Buss of Alexandria caught fire around 3:15 p.m. Saturday, June 8, according to the fire department.

The van, which was parked in the first spot next to the entrance to the Menards lot off of South Broadway, was engulfed in flames when the call was reported. Firefighters were able to extinguish the fire within a short time, and Alexandria Police Department officers diverted traffic from that entrance to Menards while the fire was being put out.

Fire Chief Jeff Karrow said the van's owner reported smoke coming from under the dashboard, and initial indications are that the cause of the fire was electrical.

Earlier Saturday, at around 1:40 a.m., a mobile home on Golden Gate Avenue SE sustained moderate fire damage.
