Fire destroys maple syrup shed near Miltona

Firefighters battled a shed fire in Miltona early Tuesday morning, April 14.

At 12:24 a.m., the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office received multiple 911 calls, including one from the property owner, about a shed that was on fire at 2891 North Lake Miltona Drive.

The owner, Terry Stanley, 68, said no one was inside. Neighbors reported hearing loud bangs before seeing flames.

When deputies arrived on scene, they found the shed fully engulfed in flames.

The Miltona and Parkers Prairie Fire Departments extinguished the fire.

The shed contained a 1975 Jeep, maple syrup inventory and equipment, and some miscellaneous tools.

The shed and its contents were a total loss.

At this time, what caused the fire is unknown but nothing appears suspicious, according to the sheriff’s office.
