Fire destroys barn near Nelson, animals moved to safety

Fire destroyed a barn near Nelson Saturday morning, April 25.

The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office received a call about the fire at 2014 Homestead Road NE. The homeowner, Darwin Krick, 64, reported that his barn was fully engulfed in flames on one side.

Krick was able to move the cattle and horses away from the barn, according to the sheriff’s office.

The Alexandria Fire Department arrived on scene and extinguished the fire.

The barn was a total loss and there were no injuries reported.

The fire department, North Memorial Ambulance, Douglas County Sheriff’s Office, and REA responded to the scene.
