The end is near for finishing the newest roundabout in Douglas County.
Work is on pace to be completed by Friday, Sept. 10 on the roundabout in LaGrand Township, according to county leaders. The contractor on the project, Central Specialties, Inc. of Alexandria, began work in late June.
The roundabout is on County Roads 8 and 40. The safety enhancement project is part of the County Highway Improvement Plan and will be funded through the special 0.5% local option sales tax which was adopted in 2014.
“We know this has been an inconvenience and want to thank members of the public for their patience,” said Douglas County Engineer and Public Works Director Tim Erickson. “We are asking the public to obey the barricades and not drive around them until the work is completed. It won’t be for much longer. Detours are clearly marked.”
The detour off Interstate 94 runs east on 10th Avenue southwest to to Town Hall Road and turns left (heading north) to County Road 82. Then turn left (heading northwest) to County Road 40.

From County Road 8, the detour is north on Centennial Lane NW, which turns east onto Centennial Drive NW to County Road 40. It then turns left (heading north) to County Road 82, then turns right and heads southwest to County Road 8.
To avoid the detour, eastbound traffic is encouraged to use County Road 7 south to State Highway 27 to get to Alexandria.
This will be the third roundabout in Douglas County.
