The Brandon-Evansville School District's voter-approved expansion project is in its earliest stages.

The district's school board held a special meeting Tuesday, Nov. 9, at which they approved a resolution to sign an amendment between the district and ICS Consulting.

Lori Christensen, an account executive for ICS, explained that ICS would provide single source accountability for the project.

"What that means is we have a program management model where you have one contact with ICS and we will hire all the engineers, architects, construction managers, and manage them under our umbrella," Christensen said.

A project oversight committee will be formed, as well, she said.

The amendment reads that project funding will be a combination of the voter-approved referendum, capital facility bonds and Elementary and Secondary School Emergency Relief funds totaling approximately $15,454,490.

According to the schedule established by the amendment, project design will take place from November 2021 through June 2022; bid solicitation/bid opening will take place in the summer of 2022; bid award will take place in late summer through early fall of 2022, construction start will be in the fall of 2022 or spring of 2023 based on weather and the procurement of materials; and substantial completion will be in September 2024.

Earlier this month, voters approved the referendum to provide funding for the building project with 659 "yes" votes against 356 "no" votes.

The referendum authorizes the issuing of general obligation school building bonds that will not exceed $14.5 million and will go toward "the betterment of school sites and facilities."

A previous $25.2 million referendum failed in November 2019.
