The Alexandria School Board has approved a three-year contract with Rick Sansted as superintendent of the district beginning on July 1.

The board chose Sansted on Feb. 28 to take over for Julie Critz, who is retiring at the end of June. Sansted, who is the current assistant superintendent of teaching and learning for the district, was chosen over five other finalists for the position.

"We know that Rick shares a deep passion and commitment to success for each student, and that he has great skills and abilities that will help shape the future learning directions of the district," school board Chairman Dean Anderson said.
