Alexandria played host to the Minnesota Collegiate DECA State Career Development Conference last week and Alexandria Technical & Community College came away with three dozen top 8 finalist medals.
ATCC School of Business instructor Karen Meuwissen was named Advisor of the Year, and three of her students – Austin Becker, Malachi Reese and Holli Christians – were awarded Outstanding Student Service Awards.
More than 200 DECA members from 14 Minnesota colleges tested their business and marketing skills at Arrowwood Resort and Conference Center on Feb. 27-28. Students interested in business, marketing, finance, hospitality and entrepreneurship competed in 24 individual and team events, ranging from prepared presentations to role plays, as they put skills learned in the classroom to the test.
Each of the more than 40 ATCC students competed in two events each.
Allesondra Kulberg and Reece earned first-place awards, with Kaila Sweazy and Reece took seconds. A couple of two-person teams also took runnerup honors: Trenton Zins and Cameron Murphy; and Adrianna Post and Shanna Scofield.
Finalists received recognition at the state level and will have the chance to compete at the Collegiate DECA International Career Development Conference in Atlanta in April.
