An Alexandria Area High School student is one of 36 winners statewide of the ExCEL Award.

Aubrey Kosters, a junior on the school's "A" honor roll, was selected from 323 nominees for that award. She and other award recipients will be recognized on Saturday, March 14, during halftime of a 2019-20 girls basketball state tournament game on KSTC-TV (Channel 45).

ExCEL stands for Excellence in Community, Education and Leadership. The award is aimed exclusively at Minnesota high school juniors, and is awarded by an independent panel of judges through the Minnesota State High School League.

Students who are active in school activities, who show leadership qualities and who work voluntarily in their community are eligible.

Kosters, daughter of Lucas and Sara Kosters, is involved in soccer, track and field, orchestra, drama, and student clubs including DECA, VIBE, SLAM and the High School Democrats of America, where she has served as the treasurer and vice president.

She also volunteers as a youth dance coach, helped with a Habitat for Humanity Women’s Build and served her church as a confirmation guide, a member of the worship music team, Sunday school teacher and nursery volunteer.

“Aubrey is an extremely talented performer," said Chad Duwenhoegger, high school principal. "She is a hard-working young woman and a great role model for individuals of all ages."

This is the 24th year that the Minnesota State High School League has sponsored the ExCEL Award.
