Upcoming community education classes will teach you how to make wine, crochet, and polish rocks, among other topics.

Students will discover what it takes to make their own wine. The class will introduce various grapes and their regions and walk through the steps from initial fermentation to bottling. There will be samples. It will also cover wine-food pairings. Must be 21 or older. The cost is $35 for one session at Potomac Bead Company.

Make-n-Take Children’s Craft Series: Woodcutting
The art of woodcutting originated thousands of years ago in China. See contemporary woodcut artwork from Minnesota artist Charles Beck, learn about the unique art form and create your own masterpieces to display at home. The cost is $5 for one session at the Legacy of the Lakes Museum.
10-11:30 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 13.
Learn the basic crochet stitches and whip up some coasters. Yarn, hook and pattern are included. The cost is $35 for two sessions at Potomac Bead Company.
1-3 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 13 and Thursday, Aug. 15.
Open Studio times are available for those who have taken classes at the Lorsung Art Studio and know how to use the equipment independently to work on their own projects. A certified instructor will be on site. The fee is $5 per hour payable to the instructor.
11 a.m.-2 p.m. on Wednesdays, Aug. 14 and Aug. 28.
DIY Blanket Ladder
A blanket ladder offers simple, stylish storage of blankets or special hangings. Students will build their own blanket ladder from scratch, using power tools. The cost is $64 for one session at The Design Station.
6-8 p.m. Thursday, Aug 15.
Sprinkle powdered glass on copper. Apply fire. You'll be amazed by the results! You'll create a simple, two-disc pendant. All materials are supplied. The cost is $35 for one session at the Lorsung Art Studio.
11 a.m.-1 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 20.
Rock Cutting and Polishing
Make your own polished rocks for setting into metal wire wrapping, or just for admiring. In this class you will learn how to cut and polish rocks into beautiful pieces using the lapidary equipment at the studio. Bring your own rocks or use some the instructor will bring. A $5 materials fee is payable to the instructor. The cost is $15 for one session at Lorsung Art Studio.
