Bob Draack of Alexandria, pictured at the 9/11 Memorial next to Alexandria's Max Beilke, visited Ground Zero in New York with his wife, Carla, on Thursday, Sept. 8. Beilke, who served 22 years in the Army, was the last U.S. combat soldier to officially leave Vietnam. While working as a civilian employee at the Pentagon, Beilke was killed after terrorists hijacked an airliner and crashed it into the building on September 11, 2001.
