The American Dairy Association of Douglas County is seeking candidates to participate in this year's dairy princess program. Dairy princesses serve as goodwill ambassadors for the dairy industry by appearing at various promotional events and speaking to children consumers and the media. They also participate in parades throughout the county.
A candidate must be a high school graduate by July 1, 2008 and not yet 24 years old. She or her parents (or legal guardian) must be actively engaged in the production of milk for sale to a licensed plant during the current year. A candidate also qualifies if she or her parents are employed on a dairy farm in a dairy related capacity.
The new county dairy princesses will advance to a training seminar to be held at the College of St. Benedict in May. In addition to learning skills that can be used for the rest of their lives, the young ladies will also be competing for the 12 spots to advance to the Princess Kay of the Milky Way competition.
At all levels of competition, contestants are judged on their communication skills, personality, enthusiasm for dairy promotion and general knowledge of the dairy industry. For an application or to ask more questions, contact Mary Kay Lund at (320) 524-2770. Applications must be received by February 15, 2008.
