ALEXANDRIA — The Douglas County Corn & Soybean Growers and the corn check-off dollars are supporting the Outreach Food Shelf in Alexandria by donating $250 to help those struggling with hunger this season.
“With rural communities facing challenges of food security, more people found themselves turning to food sectors for help. Our local food bank does a tremendous work and we wanted to step up alongside them to help families in our community,” Deb Johnson, director of the county organization, said in a press release.
Studies estimate at least 60 million people turned to food banks, food pantries, and other private food assistance programs in 2020 in the midst of the health and economic crisis caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.
