GARFIELD — The Douglas County Sheriff's Office is investigating an incident that happened on Wednesday, Jan. 25, in which a dog was found with a gunshot wound.
The dog was found near the area of County Road 56 west of Garfield.
There are no suspects in the matter, and the owner of the dog is currently unknown.
The dog is at a local veterinary clinic at this time, and the sheriff's office is asking the public's help in reuniting the dog with its owner.
A GoFundMe page has been set up by Melissa Justice to cover the costs of the dog's care, and it already has exceeded its $5,000 goal in one day.

If the campaign results in overages of the cost of the dog's care, they will be donated to Bailey's Hope, an organization that helps with canine medical expenses, the GoFundMe page reads.
The page also reads that the dog, which is a female, was suffering from hypothermia on arrival at the Alexandria Veterinary Clinic, and that it might have been up to a day between when she was shot and when she was found.
"Her body temperature is regulated today but they will need to wait to conduct surgery until some of her tissue has repaired itself," the page reads. "Hopefully early next week, but likely not until late in the week. She’ll need to be there for several weeks after surgery depending on her healing."
