The COVID-19 pandemic has postponed another big event in the Alexandria area — the July 4 parade and dedication for the new Veterans Memorial Park that's being built along Broadway and Eighth Avenue.

The Veterans Memorial Park Committee announced Tuesday that the event has been postponed due to concerns regarding large social gatherings.

As soon as COVID 19 guidelines restricting the gathering of large crowds are rescinded, the VMP Committee said it will announce a grand opening dedication ceremony for the public.

In cooperation with the City of Alexandria, the VMP will publish a date at which time the Park will be open to social distancing foot traffic prior to August 2020.
