The Pope County Sheriff’s Office and the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension (BCA) are investigating the circumstances surrounding a death which occurred late Wednesday night.
Around 11:24 p.m. Wednesday, Pope County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to a 911 call about an individual who had been shot inside of a home in Gilchrist Township in rural Pope County. Upon arrival, deputies located a distraught female outside of the home and a deceased male inside of the home. Investigators believe both individuals live at the residence.
BCA agents and crime scene personnel have responded to the scene at the request of the Pope County Sheriff’s Office. Sheriff’s deputies and agents are conducting interviews with the female as well as any possible witnesses.
Investigators do not believe there is an ongoing risk to the public.
The man’s body will be taken to the Anoka County Medical Examiner for autopsy and formal identification.
