The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office received a call about traveling paving companies soliciting property owners in the Garfield area.

The paving company will claim they are working in the area and have leftover tar. They tell the property owner they will pave their driveway at a reduced rate, according to the sheriff's office.

The property owner is pressured into making a quick decision without knowing exactly what it will cost. Once the work is done the property owner is given a bill that is much more expensive then what they were led to believe, the sheriff's office warned.

The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office reminds the public of the following:

•Never allow someone to pressure you into making a quick financial decision.

•Never agree to work being performed until you know how much you are being charged

•Call local paving companies to compare estimates.
