FERGUS FALLS — A 49-year-old man is accused of attempted murder after allegedly stabbing another man outside an apartment complex in Fergus Falls.

Harry Edward Helps Sr., of Fergus Falls, is facing one felony count of second-degree attempted murder with intent, but not premeditated, according to documents filed Friday, Sept. 27, in Otter Tail County District Court. Helps is also charged with two felony counts related to assault.

About 7 a.m. Sept. 26, Fergus Falls authorities were notified that a man had been stabbed outside an apartment complex by a man the victim identified as Helps, court papers show.

One of two people who took the victim to the hospital told authorities she saw a man fitting Helps' description leaving the apartment complex, court papers show.

The victim told authorities that Helps lured him to the apartment building and that he was attacked because Helps thought he was involved with another woman, court papers show.

The victim suffered injuries to his liver, abdomen and left thigh, and required surgery, court papers show.

Helps was being held in Otter Tail County Jail on $750,000 bail with no conditions. He can be released under certain conditions if he posts $50,000 cash bail or a $500,000 non-cash bond. Court records did not list an attorney for Helps.
