Cardinal boys fall to Rocori in CLC

The Cardinal boys' basketball team had its hands full with Rocori on Tuesday night as Alexandria dropped its 10th consecutive game with a 75-58 loss.

The Cardinal boys' basketball team had its hands full with Rocori on Tuesday night as Alexandria dropped its 10th consecutive game with a 75-58 loss.

The Spartans came into the game undefeated in the Central Lakes Conference and that is how they would leave, thanks in large part to a 25-point performance by Sam Feldhege.

Feldhege went off in the second half for 17 points to help his team pull away from what was only a six-point halftime lead.

"We were behind by four points early in the second half when Rocori scored on five consecutive possessions," head coach John Holsten said. "And we missed shots on all five of our possessions in returns. We couldn't get the deficit to single digits after that."

Steve Conley led the Cardinals with 21 points and seven rebounds, while Matt Peterson added nine points for Alexandria.

"[Conley] had his best overall game of the season," Holsten said. "Gordy Diekman gave us a spark with his aggressive play off the bench, and [Peterson] gave us a scoring punch off the bench as well."

It was another tough loss for the Cardinals as they continue to search for their first win of the season. With all the hard work put into preparing for each game, Holsten said the losses are definitely starting to take their toll.

"Being winless at this point of the season is tough both mentally and physically," he said. "We are committed to improving and seeing positive results from our efforts."

Alexandria will try again tonight, Friday, when they welcome Fergus Falls to town. The Otters are 4-5 overall this season and 3-3 in the CLC.
