Alexandria's Beth Rindy scored what proved to be the game-winner in the second period of the Section 6A girls' hockey championship Thursday night as the Cards defeated Morris/Benson Area 3-1 to advance to their sixth state tournament in seven years.
Michelle Anez, on an assist by Beth Rindy, scored the game opener in the first period, with the Storm's Sara Rajewsky putting in an unassisted goal early in the second period to tie the game.
Rindy's goal, unassisted, came late in the second to put the Cards back up by one.
Alexis Nielson, scoring her first goal of the season, also scored an unassisted goal to put the Cardinals up 3-1. Hers came in the third period.
Alexandria's Stephanie Drown made 18 saves in goal for the winning team, while the Storm's Brooke Falk made 38 saves in goal.
