Diver Aaron Rooney will be the lone representative for the Cardinals as the Class AA swimming and diving championships get underway tomorrow, Thursday, at 6 p.m. at the University of Minnesota Aquatic Center.

Rooney finished third in the diving competition in his home pool on Saturday as Alexandria hosted the Section 8AA championships.

The Cardinals finished third overall, trailing powerhouse and defending champion Brainerd as well as a strong Bemidji squad.

"The Warriors dominated the contest, nearly doubling the score of the runner up Lumberjacks," said Cardinal head coach Mark Storhaug. "The Cards scored 21 times, which included nine individual top-eight finishes."

Rooney's third place finish with 375 points moves him on to state. He trailed Dwight Baker of Elk River and Mike Golling of Moorhead, who had scores of 460.50 and 397.5 respectively.
