Fire engulfed a vehicle on Interstate 94 near Garfield shortly before 4 p.m. today, Wednesday.

No injuries were reported but the incident backed up the east-bound lanes of I-94 for miles. A thick cloud of smoke billowed from the passenger car while Garfield firefighters were responding.

The fire happened near milemarker 97, just west of the Garfield interchange.

The State Patrol, Douglas County Sheriff's Office, Garfield Fire Department and north Ambulance responded to the scene.
