After a 22-win season, Minnesota was rewarded with a No. 10 seed in the 2009 NCAA Men's Basketball Tournament.
The Gophers (22-10) will face No. 7 seed Texas (22-11) on Thursday at 6:10 p.m. CST in Greensboro, N.C. The game is broadcast on CBS, and will also be heard on WCCO 830 AM radio. The Gophers will make their first NCAA appearance since 2005 and its sixth overall.
The Gophers are the No. 10 seed in the East Regional. Should the Gophers defeat Texas, they will face the winner of No. 2 seed Duke and No. 15 Binghamton. The No. 1 seed in the Regional is Pittsburgh.
The Minnesota women's basketball team is going dancing. The Golden Gophers were awarded a No. 10 seed and will face No. 7 seed on Notre Dame in South Bend, Ind., on Sunday, March 22. The game will tip at approximately 1:30 p.m. CT, or 30 minutes following the Texas A&M vs. Evansville game that begins at 11 a.m. The Golden Gopher/Irish game will be televised on ESPN.
Minnesota celebrates its eighth trip to the NCAA Tournament and its sixth in the seven-year coaching reign of Pam Borton.
