It's not every teen who gets to manufacture their own Bluetooth speaker, but that's what those who attend Hands on Manufacturing Camp in June will be able to do.
Offered by Alexandria Technical and Community College, the camp is offered to students completing grades 9, 10 or 11 and want hands-on training in manufacturing. They will participate in drawing, machining, welding, and circuit assembly of a Bluetooth device that they will take home at the end of camp week.
The camp will be offered three times in June, and only one still has openings. The dates for that camp are 14-17, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., with lunch provided. Each camp will accept up to 10 students.
It's part of the federal Strengthening Career and Technical Education for the 21st Century Act, also known as Perkins V, that provided nearly $1.3 billion annually for career and technical education programs for youth and adults. Because of that funding, the college is offering the camp at no charge to participating teenagers.
