Ever so slowly, Alexandria’s population continues to grow.
The city just received the April 1, 2019 population and household estimates from the Minnesota State Demographer and it shows the city’s population increased by 1.5 percent. (The estimates always lag a year behind.)
Here are the latest estimates, according to City Planner Mike Weber:
April 1, 2019 estimated population – 14,156, up from 13,951 in 2018, an increase of 1.5%.
April 1, 2019 estimated number of households: 6,860, up from 6,696 in 2018, an increase of 2.4%.
The city street department will again update the population numbers on the “Alexandria” signs located on local roads, and coordinate with Douglas County on the county roads.
The Minnesota Department of Transportation doesn’t allow updating of its signs along either a trunk highway or Interstate 94 until after a census.
