Alexandria Park Department gets mower, bench

At its meeting Monday night, June 8, the Alexandria City Council approved a low quote from Midwest Machinery of Alexandria for a $17,900 John Deere zero-turn mower that will be used by the park department.

The new unit will include airless tires so the department won’t have to worry about flats.

It will replace the department’s 2011 mower that had about 2,100 hours on it. The used unit will be traded in for $5,150, bringing the cost down to $12,750.

In another park-related action, the council accepted a $776.74 donation from Vicki Bill that will go to the park department to reimburse the cost of a park bench in memory of her husband, Jim Bill.

The bench will be installed near the new musical playground that’s being built at Big Ole Central Park.
