Alexandria man falls through ice on Lake Ida on Christmas

The thin ice area was marked by the Douglas County Dive Team.

An Alexandria man fell through the ice while driving an all-terrain-vehicle on Lake Ida north of Alexandria on Christmas afternoon, Dec. 25.

At 3:18 p.m. the Douglas County Sheriffs Office received a 911 call that a side-by-side ATV had broke through the ice near Betsy Ross Point. Nearby fishermen were able to assist the victim, Robert Hildebrandt, 94, out of the water uninjured.

The thin ice area was marked by the Douglas County Dive Team. The Leaf Valley Fire Department and North Memorial Ambulance also assisted on scene.
