A new grass rig is on order for the Alexandria Fire Department.

At its meeting Monday night, the Alexandria City Council approved Alexandria Fire Chief Jeff Karrow's request to accept a quote of $30,212 from Juettner Motors of Alexandria to purchase a 2019 Ford F-350.

It will replace a 2016 Ford grass rig chassis that was in an accident earlier this summer.

The vehicle will be funded through the insurance claim that paid out $38,000 while the city paid a $1,000 deductible.

The bid was about $150 higher than the low bid from Nelson Auto but Karrow cited two reasons for accepting it - the truck met the specifications and the cost of travel time for the fire chief and the fire maintenance worker and fuel costs would likely bring the two quotes to about the same amount.

Following are other items from the meeting that were not reported in other council stories.

Exception to platting

The council approved a request from Arlyn Trenne to grant a one-time split of property lines between two parcels of land he owns on the north side of Northside Drive.

The purpose of the split is to maintain the dimensions of the parcel that includes the house but to add 25 feet to the east side of the property to allow the construction of a detached garage.

Once the split is completed, the westerly 25 feet will be combined with the larger parcel surrounding it and the easterly 25 feet will be combined with the parcel containing the house.

The exception to platting was allowed with the condition that each newly created 25-foot parcel will be combined with its adjacent larger parcel to the west.

Licensing requests

The council approved the following charitable gambling licenses: Alexandria Lions to conduct bingo Aug. 16-19 at the Douglas County Fair; Alexandria Red line Hockey Booster Club for bingo an an Oct. 26 event at Broadway Ballroom; and Alexandria Red Line Hockey Booster Club to sell raffles for a Dec. 4 event at the Runestone Community Center.
