The Alexandria Police Advisory Commission is being dissolved.
At its November 22 meeting, the Alexandria City Council approved a preliminary measure to rescind the ordinance that established the commission in 1996.
The five-member commission, which was formed as a means for individuals to raise issues regarding the police department, has not met for several years, according to City Administrator Jim Taddei.
If there is an issue to be addressed, the more appropriate venue is the Police Civil Service Commission, Taddei added.
Final action on dissolving the committee is expected at the council's next meeting, December 13.
