The last issue of the Osakis Review rolled off the presses this week, capping the newspaper’s 130-year history.

The May 6 issue will be its last.

Jody Hanson, Osakis Review/Echo Press publisher, said that because of the impacts of COVID-19 on the Review’s business, management made the difficult decision to cease publication.

“We want you to know we are committed to continuing coverage of the Osakis community,” Hanson said in a letter mailed to subscribers. “Osakis news and sports will be included in the Echo Press beginning May 13. We will continue to cover Osakis City Council, Osakis School Board, events and other news from the community.”

Current Osakis Review subscribers with a balance on their account will automatically be transferred to an Echo Press subscription.

“The decision to cease publication is not one we welcome,” Hanson said. “For several years now, the Osakis Review has faced challenging economic conditions caused by declining local advertising support as well as declining subscriber support. The COVID-19 pandemic has accelerated this decision. While difficult, we believe these moves will place us in the best position possible to continue delivering news to the Osakis community while being efficient with our resources.”
