6-year-old boy dies after drowning incident at Holiday Inn in Alexandria; police release name

The incident happened on June 11 and the boy died on June 15.

ALEXANDRIA — Alexandria Police Chief Scott Kent said in a news release Wednesday, June 22, "Our hearts go out to the family of six-year-old male, Japheth Peng, who reportedly passed away on June 15...please respect his family and loved ones in their time of loss."

In a previous news release, it was reported that on Saturday, June 11, at approximately 6:46 p.m., the Alexandria Police Department received a call about a boy drowning in the pool at Holiday Inn in Alexandria. Upon arrival, the 6-year-old victim had been taken out of the pool and CPR was started.

Peng was transported by North Ambulance to Alomere Health in critical condition.

Deputies from the Douglas County Sheriff's Office also responded to the scene.
