Drug bust update: Four suspects charged

Four suspects who were arrested in Alexandria June 4 after a drug investigation now face felony charges.

The suspects, who were charged in Douglas County District Court June 6, include: Derrek Valicenti, 36, of Alexandria; Germane Flemons, 38, of Chicago; Delores Ellzey, 36, of Chicago; and Joe Herdman, 31, of Henning.

Valicenti faces three felony-level drug possession charges involving methamphetamine, heroin and marijuana. He was also charged with a misdemeanor, unlawful possession of a weapon – metal knuckles – and a petty misdemeanor for possessing drug paraphernalia.

Ellzey, who is also known as Sheila Shauntae Smith, was charged with two drug possession charges involving heroin and meth, and a gross misdemeanor of providing a false name to a peace officer.

Flemons faces two felony drug possession charges involving heroin and meth.

Herdman was charged with felony heroin possession and a petty misdemeanor, possession of drug paraphernalia.

All four suspects are scheduled to make their first court appearance on Wednesday, June 19.

They were arrested after the Douglas County SWAT team obtained a warrant to search a residence on the 2100 block of Fillmore Street in Alexandria. Drugs with a street value of more than $15,000 were seized, according to police.

The arrests were the result of an ongoing investigation by the West Central Minnesota Drug and Violent Crime Task Force into the sale of drugs, according to the Alexandria Police Department.

Assisting the task force were the Alexandria Police Department, Douglas County Sheriff’s

Office, Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension and North Ambulance.
