A new public dock, "Rotary Pier," was installed this month on the south shore of Lake Agnes near Big Ole Central Park.

The Alexandria Rotary Club spearheaded the project, donating $17,737 to the city of Alexandria.

Rotary members said they're excited to provide this amenity to the residents and visitors of Alexandria.

There will be no cost to the city other than maintenance and putting the dock in and out.

The handicapped-accessible dock is included in the Big Ole Park Master Plan that was completed in 2012. It's 40-feet long with a 5-foot-wide walkway, with a safety railing, leading out to a "T" at the end of it.

The dock was getting some good use during Ole Oppe Fest this past weekend as anglers dipped their lines into the lake.

The city plans to install the dock each spring and remove it each fall. It has a mulch walkway leading to the Central Lakes Trail and to Big Ole Central Park.

"It will be a wonderful addition to the park," Mayor Sara Carlson said when the city accepted the donation this spring.
