First responders to be honored at Viking Speedway

First reponders and other emergency personnel will be honored this weekend, May 25-26, at Viking Speedway in Alexandria.

We Got Your Back organized the salute, which goes out to police and sheriff departments, dispatchers, jailers, State Patrol, ambulance crews, fire departments, Alomere Emergency Room staff, funeral homes and Life Link III medical helicopter crews.

Personnel from all those entities will get into the speedway free of charge if they show identification or are wearing uniforms.

The lakes area law enforcement dogs and the Douglas County Honor Guard will also be part of the salute.

Speedway gates open at 5 p.m. both Saturday and Sunday, and races will start at 7 p.m.

Other sponsors include Forada Fire and Rescue, Diamond Buick, Apol's Harley Davidson, Mark Lee Asphalt and Paving and Mark Lee Excavating, Inc.

Al Edenloff

Al Edenloff is the news and opinion page editor for the Echo Press. He was born in Alexandria and lived most of his childhood in Parkers Prairie. He graduated with honors from Moorhead State University with a degree in mass communications, print journalism. He interned at the Echo Press in the summer of 1983 and was hired a year later as a sports reporter. He also worked as a news reporter/photographer. Al is a four-time winner of the Minnesota Newspaper Association's Herman Roe Award, which honors excellence in editorial writing.
