Choir awards

Colin Barten and Christian Fleming of Alexandria Area High School each have been accorded all-state choral honors.

Barten, a senior, was named to the Minnesota Music Educators Association all-state choir. He also earned a place on the National Catholic Choir and the Youth Chorale of Central Minnesota.

Fleming, a sophomore, was named to the American Choral Directors Association all-state honor choir.

Approximately 180 students participate in the high school's four choirs, and several others have been recognized this year. That includes Harliann Baas, who was named to the Minnesota all-state Lutheran choir.

Making the list of the all-Central Lakes Conference choir from AAHS were:

Soprano: seniors Heather Bollman and Sydney Christenson, and junior Isabella Greathouse.

Alto: seniors Nicole Brittin and Emma Nelson, and junior Emily Elliott.

Tenor: seniors Valon Deising, Andy Tollin and Gabe Moore.

Bass: seniors Samuel Maier, Bryce Claassen, Beau Granning and Barten.

Receiving superior ratings at the Solo & Ensemble Contest were: Les Marquis, Greathouse, Sydney Larson, Christenson, Elliott, Bianca Wegner, Tollin, Maier, Barten, Fleming and Nick Nelson.

Dean's list

Raven Fuoss of Alexandria has been named to the University of Minnesota, Morris dean's list for the Fall 2018 semester. To be eligible for the dean's list, students must achieve a grade point average of 3.66 or higher while taking 12 or more credits on the A-F grading system, with no incompletes or unsatisfactory grades.

Graduates' list

Minnesota State University, Mankato awarded 2,304 degrees at the end of the spring 2019 semester, with approximately 1,700 students participating in three graduation ceremonies on campus May 11 in Taylor Center's Bresnan Arena.

Among the graduates is Taharah Hovey of Osakis, who will graduate magna cum laude with a Bachelor of Science degree in alcohol and drug studies.
