A road project on Highway 28/29 starts Monday, May 13, and it will close the road to through traffic from Glenwood to Starbuck.
The detour will route traffic to Highway 29 south of Starbuck, onto Pope County Road 18 and Highway 104. Access will be maintained for businesses and residences along the work zone throughout the duration of construction, and school bus operations should not be affected.
For local traffic, directional signs may change daily depending on where crews are working.
The project includes resurfacing, shoulder widening and constructing a bypass lane at County Road 24 and left-turn lanes at Golf Course Road. Pavement removal begins near Starbuck, heading east toward Glenwood.
Centerline culvert work will begin mid-week and could temporarily restrict or limit local access where crews are working.
The project is expected to be completed by early July, weather permitting.
