Franson to host clothing, food drive Saturday

Mary Franson

State Rep. Mary Franson, R-Alexandria, will host a clothing and food drive on Saturday, Dec. 8, from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. in the Elden's Fresh Foods parking lot, 707 3rd Ave. E, Alexandria.

The day-long drive seeks to collect warm clothing, blankets, and food items to share with people in need in the community and Alexandria area. Proceeds and items collected will be donated to the United Way of Douglas and Pope Counties and the Outreach Food Shelf.

Franson hosted a clothing and food drive last December, and said its success motivated her to put on the event again this year.

"I was thrilled by our community's amazing turnout at last year's event. We were able to spread our blessings and make a positive impact on many people's lives, and I want to replicate that success this year," said Franson. "I'd like to encourage folks to consider getting involved with this drive, whether it be by donating items or volunteering their time. This time of year, it is especially important to remember people less fortunate than ourselves, and I am hopeful that we can once again help make a difference in the lives of those in need."

The United Way said it is specifically looking for the following winter items: winter coats, snow pants, scarves, mittens, boots, hats, and blankets. In addition, the organization has stated that the following items are most needed: children's winter items, men's L-XXXL coats, boots, waterproof/insulated mittens and gloves, and full size and larger blankets.

Franson can be reached at 651-296-3201 or with any questions about the event.
