Ecumen Bethany Community has now been around as long as some of the residents in the care facility, as the retirement home will celebrate its 100th anniversary this weekend.
"It's a very huge accomplishment," executive director Matt Fischer said. "We have been a part of the Alexandria area community for 100 years...We feel very blessed to reach that milestone. We are very excited for the future but also want to reflect on the past and celebrate what we've done. It's going to be a huge weekend with fun activities."
The celebration will kick off with Ecumen Bethany hosting Wake Up, Alexandria at 7:30 a.m. Friday, June 16. Then that afternoon at 1:30 there will be a vintage fashion show called Styles Through The Decades, held in the Bethany Chapel.
"Over the last 100 years, every decade has kind of had a different fashion," Fischer said.
"So this lady from the (Twin) Cities is coming down and is bringing her clothes with her. Our staff is going to model."
On Saturday, Bethany's Birthday Bash Family Fun Carnival will be held from 1 to 4 p.m. at 10th Avenue and Lark Street. The carnival will feature music by the Red Letter Band and Chapter VIII, a pulled pork lunch, a petting zoo, carnival games, face painting and more.
The weekend will wrap up with the 100-year Worship Celebration and Concert by The Knudtson Family on Sunday, June 18, at 2 p.m. in the chapel.
All events will be held at 1020 Lark Street and are free and open to the public.
"Our residents are very excited," Fischer said. "We're focusing as much as we can around them."
Fischer says the weekend's events are a way of expressing thanks to the Alexandria area for the support Ecumen Bethany has received over the years.
"We wouldn't have gotten there without the love and support of the community and the folks who have helped us along the way," Fischer said.
