Township elections take place today, Tuesday, at 18 townships in Douglas County. (The county's other two townships, Brandon and Miltona, will hold their elections in November.)

Some polling places will be open at noon. Contested races will take place in at least three townships - LaGrand, Lund and Spruce Hill. Also, a write-in candidate will win a clerk position in Solem Township because no one filed.

Here's a breakdown of what's happening in each township.

ALEXANDRIA

Two supervisor positions are up for election and only two candidates have filed - Joel Dahlheimer and Rod Eldevik. Both are for three-year terms.

Polls will be open from noon to 8 p.m. at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church. The annual meeting will follow.

BELLE RIVER

The clerk position is up for election and Denise Klein is the only candidate who filed. Also, incumbent Bob Larson has re-filed for supervisor.

Polls will be open from 5 to 8 p.m. with the annual meeting to follow.

CARLOS

Rebecca Anderson, incumbent, has filed for the clerk's position. Dwayne Waldorf, incumbent, is running unopposed for the supervisor spot.

Polls will be open from 4 to 8 p.m., followed by the annual meeting.

EVANSVILLE

Randy Jacobson has re-filed for the supervisor post and is running unopposed. The clerk position is appointed.

Polls will be open from 5 to 8 p.m., followed by the annual meeting at 8:20 p.m.

HOLMES CITY

Terry Cooper, incumbent clerk/treasurer, is running unopposed. Ron Klimek faces no challengers for the supervisor spot.

Polls will be open from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Holmes City Township Hall in Farwell. The annual meeting will take place at 8:15 a.m.

HUDSON

Two positions are up for election. Carol Hedlund has filed for clerk and Daniel New, incumbent, has filed for supervisor. They face no challengers.

Polls will be open from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Forada City Hall with the annual meeting following.

IDA

One three-year supervisor term is up for election and incumbent Daniel Diedrich is running unopposed. The clerk/treasurer position is appointed.

Polls will be open from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Ida Township Hall in Garfield. The annual meeting will follow.

LAGRAND

A race is taking place for a supervisor position between incumbent Dick Bromley and challenger Joe Swartz. The term is for three years. The clerk post is appointed.

Polls will be open from noon to 8 p.m. at the LaGrand Town Hall. The annual meeting will follow.

LAKE MARY

Nichole Boyden has re-filed for the clerk position and Brad Brejcha is running unopposed for the supervisor spot.

Polls will be open from 2 to 8 p.m.. The annual meeting will follow at 8:15 p.m.

LEAF VALLEY

Pamela Cuperus, incumbent clerk, is running unopposed, and Supervisor Dale Diedrich also faces no challengers on the ballot.

Polls will be open from 3 to 8 p.m. at the Leaf Valley Town Hall. The annual meeting will start at 8:15 p.m.

LUND TOWNSHIP

There will be a race for a supervisor position between incumbent Wayne Martin and challenger Shane Heinrich. Also, incumbent Clerk Tom Reddick has re-filed and faces no challengers.

Polls will be open from 5 to 8 p.m. The annual meeting will follow.

MILLERVILLE

Both incumbents are running unopposed - Marilyn Bitzan for clerk and Kenneth Kuhn for supervisor.

Polls will be open from 3 to 8 p.m. with the annual meeting to follow.

MOE

Clerk Todd Egenes is running unopposed for another term. Fred Krafthefer is running unopposed for a three-year supervisor spot, and John Krafthefer filed for a two-year supervisor term after incumbent Rod Johnson resigned. He is also running unopposed.

Polls will be open from 5 to 8 p.m. with the annual meeting to follow.

ORANGE

Jennifer Dietrich, incumbent clerk, has re-filed. Ken Marthaler has filed for a three-year supervisor term. They face no challengers on the ballot.

Polls will be open shortly after the annual meeting, which begins at 3 p.m., and polls will close at 8 p.m. at the Pollard Community Center in Osakis.

OSAKIS

Dawn McNeal has re-filed for clerk and faces no challengers. Incumbent supervisor Gene Rasmusen is also running unopposed.

Polls will be open from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Pollard Community Center. The annual meeting will take place at 8:15 p.m.

SOLEM

No one has filed for the clerk position currently held by Jaclyn Halvorson. Bruce Wohlforth is running unopposed for supervisor.

Polls will be open from 5 to 8 p.m. The annual meeting will take place from 4 to 5 p.m. at the Kensington Rune Stone Park Barn.

SPRUCE HILL

There is a race for treasurer between Jesse Lusty and Bert Pexsa. (The incumbent, Henry Ahrens, moved out of the township.) Also, Karen Kuhnau has filed for clerk, replacing Colleen Burquest, who moved out of the township. Brad Lusty is running unopposed for supervisor.

Polls will be open from 5 to 8 p.m., and the annual meeting will start at 8:15 p.m.

URNESS

Incumbent Brent Johnson has filed for another three-year supervisor term, and John Plaster is seeking a one-year supervisor term. Both are running unopposed. The clerk position is appointed.
