Mark R. Anderson, president and CEO of Knute Nelson in Alexandria, was recently honored by LeadingAge Minnesota with the Kal Michels Outstanding Leadership Award.
The award recognizes a leader in older adult services who has provided excellent leadership to their employees and organization, enhances the quality of life for the residents in the community and provides exceptional community service.
Anderson has led Knute Nelson for 10 years through the transformation from a small nursing home to expanded services in assisted living, therapy, wellness center, home care, hospice and a variety of community services.
When Anderson assumed leadership as president/CEO in August 2004, Knute Nelson employed approximately 220 individuals and served 400 individuals annually, primarily in Douglas County. Today, Knute Nelson employs 510 individuals and serves approximately 5,000 individuals located in 26 Counties throughout the West Central region of Minnesota.
“It is a rare opportunity that we have to work for an organization that has the mission of enriching the lives of everyone we serve. I work with an amazing team of people,” said Anderson.
“Mark is a leader with great vision and the growth that Knute Nelson has experienced during his tenure serves as a great example of his strong leadership,” said Doug Houska, chair of the Knute Nelson Corporation board of directors.
Anderson accepted the award at the LeadingAge Minnesota Institute, the state’s largest and most comprehensive aging services conference. Nearly 4,000 professionals in all aspects of older adult services attend the annual three-day event to learn about new and innovative programs, share best practices and network with their peers.
