3 file for Alexandria School Board, triggering a special primary election

The vacancy was created when board member Bob Cunniff resigned in March in order to move closer to family.

A special primary election will take place this August to fill a spot on the Alexandria School Board.

The vacancy was created when board member Bob Cunniff resigned in March in order to move closer to family.

The board appointed Jeff Patience to temporarily fill the position until an election could take place.

During the filing period, which ended June 1, three candidates filed for the position – Patience, Maureen Eigen and Jeremy D. Smith.

Because more than two candidates filed, it triggers a primary election on Tuesday, Aug. 10. The two candidates who receive the most votes in the primary will appear on the ballot for the special election on Tuesday, Nov. 2. The winner will serve the remaining one year that's left on Cunniff's four-year term.
