Minnewaska girls run to first in Melrose

The Minnewaska girls cross country team ran away with the Melrose Triangular on Thursday with 18 points, well in front of second-place Melrose at 56.

Morris rounded out the field with 70 points.

The Lakers had four of the top five spots in the individual standings. Sydney Hagen won the race in 21:49, and Kiearra Wilmes was second right behind her at 21:50.

Sydnie Chevalier was fourth in 22:08, while Elsey Hagen finished fifth in 22:13. Kenzie Luetmer (sixth, 22:15), Ava Chevalier (eighth, 22:28), Emma Kovarik (ninth, 22:42) and Sydney Perry (10th, 22:48) rounded out the varsity lineup.

The Minnewaska boys were second as a group with 33 points, just off of first-place finisher Melrose with 30. Morris finished with 63 points.

Maeson Tank led the Lakers with a second-place finish in 18:49. Logan Maanum wasn’t far behind in third place in 19:01. Nick Ankeny (fifth, 19:08), Zach Palmer (10th, 20:11), Noah Danielson (13th, 20:16), Aiden Maanum (20:43), James Ward (15th, 21:01) and Ian Mills (20th, 22:06) finished off the varsity lineup for the Lakers.
